Proverbs 29:1
He who is often reproved, yet stiffens his neck, will suddenly be broken beyond healing.
Many of us have received some form of spanking or discipline from our parents in the past. However, in today's world, parents may be afraid of their children more than children are afraid of them. I grew up in a time when I would be disciplined if I wasn't respectful to older people, didn't do my homework, or acted mischievously outside. I'm worried about this generation and the possibility of lawlessness in the future. However, I will use all the platforms available to me, including my social media and website, to speak to the youth.
Currently, many people are stubborn when it comes to receiving criticism. They are very sensitive and unwilling to learn. In the Bible, God told King Saul through Prophet Samuel that "obedience is better than sacrifice." This happened when King Saul was asked to wait but became impatient and disobeyed by sacrificing without Samuel because he was too afraid of being embarrassed in front of people. In contrast, King David admitted his faults and allowed himself to be vulnerable after he sinned by committing adultery with Bathsheba and murdering Uriah. He said, "I sinned alone before God." In front of people, he admitted his faults. King Saul was beyond healing while King David had a teachable heart, thus flowing the forever blessing of eternity.
While it's true that Jesus can help us overcome any wound, pain, sickness or even death, the only disease that cannot be cured is a proud heart that is unwilling to acknowledge when God is calling their name. A proud heart can be stiff-necked and unwilling to respond and acknowledge that they need saving, healing, and redemption in their life. Be like King David and have a teachable heart that is renewed every morning.
